About
Noël Li is a film and television composer with over 12 years of professional experience in the screen industries, recognised for creating emotionally nuanced, narrative-driven music through close collaboration with directors, producers, and creative teams. His work demonstrates a sophisticated understanding of dramatic structure, pacing, and the integration of music within audiovisual storytelling.Originally based in Hong Kong and now residing in Scotland, Noël brings a cross-cultural perspective to his creative and research practice. His compositional voice blends contemporary screen scoring with refined instrumental writing, particularly for string-based and plucked instruments, alongside an active engagement with emerging digital tools.In 2019, he received the Best Original Music (Drama) award at the 28th Hong Kong Drama Awards. More recently, his arrangement and recording was selected as one of five works broadcast as part of the 2025 Classic FM Christmas Carol Competition in the UK.From 2019 to 2023, Noël taught Sound Design and Technology on the MSc in Multimedia and Entertainment Technology at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research interests centre on musical creativity, human consciousness, and the impact of digital technologies and artificial intelligence on compositional agency, authorship, and creative decision-making. He intends to pursue a PhD in musical creativity through a practice-based research framework, using composition, experimentation, and critical reflection to examine how AI-mediated tools reshape creative processes in music.Alongside his academic and compositional work, Noël is an active performer and community musician, performing with the Da Capo Alba Orchestra and volunteering with the MANGO Youth Orchestra, affiliated with the Lanarkshire Guitar and Mandolin Association.Education:
